LOW FLYING

PEOSECUTIONS URGED

The Port Melbourne Council recently asked the Commonwealth Minister for Defence (Sir William Glasgow) to take steps to prevent aeroplanes from flying low over the municipality. It was asked also that tho owners of aeroplanes be compelled to take out insurance policies to cover individuals on land who ■ might be affected by aeroplane aeidents. The case oil an aeroplane crashing in Beach street, Port Melbourne, recently, was mentioned as an example of the danger to the public. Sir William Glasgow's reply said that a serious view of any cases of low flying was taken by the Department. Offenders would be punished. It was decided to write again to the Minister of Defence, .asking that legislation be framed to compel owners of aeroplanes to take out insurance policies, as suggested.
