SEWS FROM CHINA
'•BETTER BABIES CAMPAIGN"
Extracts from a letter written by Miss Ting, national secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of China, show how the association develops in spite of the stress of the present time: —"Good news is coming in from the city associations. Nanking has a new hostel, which it lias found it necessary to open because of the demand for room, which was more than they could meet in their former quarters. Hong Kong is especially happy over tho success of a new Children's Health Centre which they have opened at Kowloon. Hong Koug has been having an unusual opportunity to feel closely in touch with our other associations in China this fall, for its visitors have been many .... as well as several international guests who have been passing through China. Cantoii reports over two hundred children in its iive schools, with many more coming to the association to enjoy the privileges of the Suilday schools and playground. That association has had an interesting opportunity for service this fall in having boon asked by the 1 management of the Sindere Department Store to arrange for a series of meetings to be held in their store having social education as their aim. The first one was attended by more than three hundred people, and was a great success and encouragement for tho future.
"Hangchow has had a most successful 'Better. Babies Campaign.' Tientsin has organised ten popular education classes in connection with the programme of industrial work which that association, has recently undertaken, as a result of the survey made by M.ias Tao and Miss . Jehnsen last spring. Tsinau is rejoicing over the very happy celebration of its fifth anniversary, which brought together a splendid group of people and assured the board members of the real, appreciation and need, that there is for the fellowship of the Y.W.C.A.. during this present period of difficulty through which the people of Tsiiian are .passing."
