RELIGIOUS SERVICES. T 0.0. F. HALL, 19, LOWER TORY -»-• STREET. A PUBLIC ADDRESS will be delivered (God Willing) in the above Hall on SUNDAY, at 7 p.m. Subject: " THE BLOOD OF CHRIST." "But now in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." (Paul-Eph. 2:13). IN PROVING that the doctrine of substitution is a fallacy it will be demonstrated from the Scriptures: (1) THAT by nature all mankind are born "IN ADAM" (I. Cor. 15:22), "having no hope, and without God in the World." (Eph. 2:12). (2) THAT this natural "In Adam" condition can ONLY be changed by conforming to God's provision, "As many of you as have been BAPTISED INTO CHRIST have put on Christ." Then the condition will be not "in Adam" but "IN CHRIST JESUS." (Gal. 3:27-29, see also Roms., 6:3-4, 2 Cor. 5-17). This baptism, however, IS NOT merely sprinkling a few drops of water over an unbelieving infant but is -a COMPLETE BODILY IMMERSION IN WATER following a BELIEF of the Gospel, as the following testimony clearly indicates (Mark 16:15-16, ' Matt. 3:16, John 3:23, Acts 8:38, Acts 2:37-41, Acts 8:12, Acts 16:30-33, Acts 18:8, Roms. 0:3-6, 1 Pet. 3:21, etc.). (3) THEREFORE "In Christ' Jesus" (and we can only become "IN CHRIST JESUS" by being "baptised into him"— Gal. 3:27), yet who sometimes were far off are made nigh BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST." (Eph. 2:13). (4) AND be it remembered that Jesus, said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that entereth not by the door (I AM THE DOOR—verse 9) into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, THE SAME IS A THIEF AND A ROBBER." (John 10:1). (5) THUS Jesus Christ "became the author of eternal salvation UNTO ALL THEM THAT OBEY HIM." (Heb. 5:9, Rev. 22:14). QUESTIONS INVITED. NO .COLLECTION. BRING A BIBLE. THIS AND EVERY. SUNDAY AT 7 P.M. MARANATHA (i.e., Our Lord Jesus Christ is Coming). The Resurrection of our Lord from the dead is rightly considered the cornerstone of Christian doctrine, indeed the two fundamental truths of the Gospel are firstly, His atoning death and, secondarily, His bodily Resurrection from the dead. St. Paul says (I. Cor., 15): "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received how that Christ DIED for our sins according to the Scriptures. And that He was buried, and that He ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the Scriptures." Everybody in St. Paul's day would understand that the Scriptures He referred to were the Hebrew prophecies found in what we call the Old Testament Scriptures, in our Bibles. Among these the most remarkable prophecy in type we know of concerning Christ's death and resurrection is contained in the Book of Jonah. Here is recorded the amazing story of the Hebrew prophet who disobeys God when told to proceed to Nineveh,' and to proclaim in God's name that its destruction owing to the people's wickedness was to take place within forty days. The prophet is cast overboard, and is swallowed by a great sea monster; and actually DIES, but within three days is vomited up by the fish on to the dry land. Through the Divino power Jonah is restored to life again. The story being blazed abroad, we do not wonder that the Ninevites immediately Jonah enters their city repent and cry mightily to God for mercy. That this narrative is true, history has striking confirmation in the fact that Sir Edward Layard, when at the head of an expedition seeking the ruins of Nineveh, was unable to obtain the slightest clue to guide him where to dig for the site of this ancient city. He was utterly baffled, till one day an Arab guide pointed to a hillock which he said was known as "Jonah's mound." A shaft was forthwith sunk on the plain below, and soon the ruins of Nineveh were located. All remembrances of the once great, city were blotted out; but the tradition concerning Jonah survived the more than twentyfive centuries. Thousands in our Wellington of to-day dp not believe that Christ died to save their souls and was raised again for their justification. Yet the Hebrew prophets long ago predicted He would. That men can contemplate how tremendously Christ has influenced the world's history and .yet refuse to acknowledge His claims is beyond understanding. The people of Nineveh will most certainly rise in judgment with this generation and shall condemn it. The same Scriptures too which foretold Christ's first Coming also declare that He is Coming again the Second time. He will come to take His believing people to be with Him for ever; and then returning a little later with them, coming with great power and glory to execute judgment upon all who rejected Him. Christ's Coming for His own may be at any moment. "And what I (Christ) say unto you, I say unto all, WATCH." WELLINGTON SPIRITUALIST CHURCH (INC.), New Century Hall, Kent terrace.
