■ . MELBOURNE, This Day.. The High Court is inquiring into the affairs of John Holt, the well-konwn Caulfield hbrse trainer, who is appWsling against his income tax assessment. It was. ascertained that £13,000 was won by Holt in threo years, while counsel for the Crown told the Court that Holt's fortune had increased £40,000 between the years 1914 and 1918. Holt, however, did not think it that much. He admitted, that he had won considerable . sums ! backing ■ Other men's horses, not those he trained. He vu also most successful at cards, chiefly poker, at which he won unwards of £400 a year.
