Big things wore expected of Geddes by his Invoreargill supporters at the Otago chamj>ionships at Dunedin today. He was'selected to contest tlto 100 yds, 220 yds, and 440 yds championships. Another member of the Invercargill team who was expected to do well was Miss V. Mchol, whose-, performances at a recent sports meeting in Dunedin greatly impressed.
S. Laythrew the javelin 193 ft at an electric light meeting held the other week.by the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club. Although this effort is somefeet below his-best, it indicate? that he is approaching top form. .
Harold Larwopd, the Notts ericlfeter, who has doiio'so .well asa bowler for England, was 24. years of age on the 14tb November. He spent his early years in the Nottinghamshire coal pits —one reason for his sturdy frame. He played in the" Notts second toam in 1925 and was speedily promoted. Ho is as unlike a fast bowler in appearance as one could imagine. Standing only sft Tin liiqh, ho has not the commanding height of a Richardson or a Gregory, but ho has in many games shown. a faculty for producing tho unexpected. He was married two years ago,- and seems to have made a complete recovery from last year's knee trouble. >That rowing is booming in Otago is shown 'by thp fact that for the five clubs under- the jurisdiction of .the Otago Rowing Association the total membership up to 30th September, 1925, was 188. The individual club rolls at that date were as follow: —North End 37, Queen's Drive 27, Port Chalinori 29, Otago 71, and Oamaru 24. Since that date, however, 72 new members have been elected, while the grand total is still further swelled by the .advent of the newly formed North-east Har. bour Rowing Club, with a membership of 21.
