(Received 29th January, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, 28th 'January A conference unique in railway history was held in the Great Western Eai way offices at Paddington, when, booking clerks, porters, eugineMrivers signalmen, guards, and greasers con' terred with the directors on the subject of salesmanship ■in relation to railways in special reference to motor competition.'
Sir Felix Polo emphasised that the railways could no longer wait for tho public to come for them. They must go to the public. Eailwaymen of every' grade could bo salesmen, canvassers,! and advertisers for their own line.
The raihvaymen freely partook mi the discussion,.and threw out many suggestions which were welcomed by tho'--officials.
