SWIMMING
+ NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
What must nearly be record entries have been received Cor the national swimming championships, which will commence next Saturday afternoon at the Te Aro Baths, and which will be continued oyor the following week. All the centres are sending large teams, and nearly 200 visitors will arrive during next week to participate in the big carnival. Amongst the entrants are all the title-holders. Misses Stockley and Miller, D. Lindsay and L. Moorhouse, Olympic representatives, Norman Dowsett (100 yds champion), and Roy Calder (diving champion), the prominent local champion, W. Cameron, Auckland's star distance swimmer, Or. Bridson, and Canterbury's noted performer, A. Stokes, are a few of the noted cracks who will be competing, and with attractive performances behind them they are -jertain to be well in the picture for championship honours. In the intermediate and junior grades appear the names of some smart performers; and given favourable conditions several new records should appear. Special stand accommodation has been erected, for which seats can be reserved at E. Perry's.
Tim Wellington Education Board received information yesterday that among Government grants recently approved of it one for a head teacher's room at Waiwhetu School, and another for the remodelling of the brick building at Brooklyn.
