KILLED IN THE DESERT

CAUGHT IN TRIBAL TIGHT

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received 25th January, 8 a.m.) BASEA, 24th January. Eeports from desert arrivals suggest that the Crane affair was an accidental incident in the course of a fight between Koweit tribesmen and Wahabi raiders,

A cablegram received on Tuesday from Basra stated that one hundred Wahabis hidden in desert scrub ambushed two motors in which Mr. Charles Crane, ex-American Ambassador to China, and three others, were travelling to Koweit, from Basra. A fusillado killed the Bey. Henry Bilkett, an American Presbyterian missionary. The others were not injured, and escaped.
