CONCLUDING EVENTS

.Following are the descriptions of the race* decided at Trenthum yesterday after ''The Post" went to press:— ANOTHER SURPRISE. Vcrtigera wound up a rather belter favourite than Historic in the Racing Club's Handicap, with plenty of support for The Hawk, Pink Note, aud Papatu.' Concentrate led down the straight from Royal Saxon, Vertigern, Joy Bird, Star Area, and White Pang, with Historic last. Concentrate hung out on the turn, and Royal .Saxon displaced him in flic lead al; the mile, then coming Star Area, Joy Bird, Vertigern, Prickles, White Fang, Rapine, and Yoma. At the half-mile Royal Saxon just led Star Area and Concentrate, with Joy Bird, Vertigern, Prickles, and Papatn next, and Yoma and Historic still well back. Royal Saxon was the first to turn for home from Star Area, Concentrate, Joy Bird, Vei'tigcrn, Prickles, and Papatu. Yoma was noticed dashing through his field almost opposite the false rail, where Historic got his chance. Yoma had too much leeway for Historic to overtake him in the last fifty yards, and Yoma beat him by a nose. Pink Note, who also arrived with a late run, was two- leDgths away third, and White Fang, . Royal Saxon, Papatu, and Star Area were next,

GOLD CURE IS GOOD. Gold Cure and Royal Lineage were practically even favourites for the Douro Cup, but with such a good betting race even they were at good, prices. High Falutin' and King's Jest were left, and Royal Lineage led out of the barrier from Spearmiss, Teremoana, Gold Cure, and Great Star. Great Star took charge at the cud of- a furlong from Teremoana, Royal Lineage, Gold Dawn, Millais, aud Gold Cure. Great Star led_ into the straight from Llanore, Royal Lineage, Gold Dawn, Millais, Gold Cure, Singer, and Latin Quarter. Great Star hung on well on the inside, but Gold Cure, wide out, galloping strongly, came on to score by a length and a half. Latin Quarter was beaten by a head for second by Great Star, and then right up in a bunch were Stanchion, Singer, Llanore, and High Falutin.' CHILDSPLAY'S REVENGE. Silver Paper was a slightly better favourite than Childsplay, aud they had the finish to themselves in the Metropolitan Handicap. Cimabue, Ridgemount, Childsplay, and Silver Paper were moat prominent on to the course proper. Cimabue was the first beaten, and Childsplay and Silver Paper drew out. Lysauder put in some good work in the straight, but Childsplay was holding her own, and beat Silver Paper by half a length. Lysander was a length and a half back third, with Cimabue fourth, and Silvcrmiue, Ridgemount, and Miss Pat next.

A GAME PERFORMANCE. Knightlike, Grand Acre, and Quantum were all solidly backed for the concluding event. There was a little delay at the barrier, and when they, were dispatched Star Raid, Grand Acre, Shortly, and Australis showed out first. Racing on to tho course proper Australis and Grand Acre led The Dove, Moutoa Wonder, Roynl Duke, and Quantum. Royal Duke and Moutoa Wonder asserted themselves at the false rail, and after a good duel Royal Duke just won by a bare head from Moutoa Wonder, with Quantum a length and a half back. Knightlike, Smithereens, Australis, and Shrewd were next. Results: — MUNGAKOA HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP, of 2GO soys, second horso 40 soys, third 20 soys from the stake; one milo and a quarter. ? J. J.
