Captain Mitchell had tlic worst of luck, siuce he booked .what tho boatmen reckon would have been a world's record mako shark which, after breaching twice, wrapped itself in the leader, finally tearing the hook away after a strenuous battle. Even after it was tangled it broached iivo times, the estimated leaps being 20 feet. The fish also rushed close to the boat, and it was with difficulty that ramming was avoided. The boatmen state that it was the finest fight, extending over two hours, put up by any game fish in New Zealand waters. . '
