LOCAL REGISTRATIONS
FIGURES FOR NINE WEEKS
During the last two months the numbers of: unemployed registered at the Wellington labour bureau have fluctuated considerably. Taking tho figures over a period of nine weeks, the average works out at- about 370 per week, though there have been times when the number registered for one week was as low as 100 and was as high as 459. One of the main reasons for the variatiuns was the Christmas period, a rush period, when there was much more demand than usual for casual labour. There was a larger number of unemployed in October last, but the figures fell off up to the end of December. This month they show an increase again, and for the last week, ending 21st January, total 410.
