STAMP DUTY APPEAL

DECISION OF CHIEF JUSTICE

UPHELD

Mr. E. Parry, counsel for Mrs. Finch in the case of Mrs. Finch versus the Commissioner of Stamp Duties, writes to "The Post" as follows regarding the result of tho Privy Council's appeal:—

"The cabled report of the decision of the Judicial Committee of tlie Privy Council in the- appeal ease of Mrs. •0. Finch versus The Commissioner of Stamps states that, tho appeal was allowed with costs. From tho latter part, of the cabled report it would appear that the Committee reversed tho decision of the Honourable, the Chief Justice, Sir Charles Skerrett, K.C.M.G-.

"I wish to point out that tho decision allowing the appeal does not reverso tho decision of tho Honourable tluo Chief Justice, who decided in Mrs. Finch's' favour, but reverses the decision of tho Court of Appeal."

A "United- Press Association cablegram received from London to-day states that tho Privy Council upheld the original judgment of the Chief Justice.
