MEETING IN WELLINGTON

'The first meeting of the newly-formed Dominion Council of Tomato, Soft Fruit, and Produce Growers was held during yesterday and to-day. Mr. T. C. Brash, president of the Fruitgrowers' Federation, ill opening the proceedings, stated that the objects of the council are to engage in any business dealing with the industry or in any enterprise calculated to promote the interests of members, and to act as the representatives of the growers. Delegates attended from Auckland, Nelson, Napier, Christchurch, and Hutt Valley. The rules of the organisation were revised. A number of resolutions were adopted, and these will be submitted to the Minister of Agriculture for consideration. <j ' In. a letter to tho conference, Mr. W. A. Tate, a director of the Fruit Growers' Federation, said that foreign competition had of late become very serious, and, if no action were taken, the future of the industry in New Zealand wtnild be jeopardised. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. 0. E. Pope (Christchurch); vice-president, Mr. D. D. Robertson (Hutt "Valley) secretary, Mr. 11. Firman (Christchureh); executive committee, Messrs.. G. J. Baxter (Nelson), W. E. Saunders (Bay View, Napier), and G. E.- Green (Auckland).
