AMATEUR ATHLETICS
MEETING OF COUNCIL
The regular meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, held last night, was presided over by Mr. 11. Austad. Tho Hon. X S. Marks, M.L.C., secretary of the Australian Amateur Athletic Union, and a member of the New South Wales bowling team, was present ut the meeting. Welcoming the Hon. X S. Marks to the meeting, Mr. Austad referred to the pleasant relations that had existed between Australia and New Zealand in the past in connection with amateur athletics, and said Unit it was the first time they hud met him as the representatives' of a separate nation. He assured Mr. Marks that he had the good wishes of the New Zealand Association.
In reply, Mr. Marks said that this was his twelfth visit to New Zealand since 1892, and it had been one of the most pleasant. He wished the Now Zealand Association every success, and said that he felt sure that the good feeling that had existed for the last twenty-nine years would continue.
Before the ordinary meeting was commenced a special meeting was held, and the following motion, moved by Mr. L. A. Tracy and Mr. G. S. Bright, with two amendments by Mr. Urquhart, was carried: "That the president of the association need not necessarily be one of the actual delegates appointed by the centres to the council, and that the presidents for the time being of the five centres be vicepresidents for the association without vote. The chairman of the executive is to be elected from the delegates, and in addition to the president and secretary two other delegates of the council form the administrative committee."
At the conclusion of the meeting, Messrs. H. Austad and E. G. Guy handed in their resignations as vice-presidents. A letter, was received from tlie association's American representative, Mr. Krogness, dealing with the proposed American tour. On the motion of Mr. Guy, it was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Krogness for his efforts in connection with the proposed tour. During the evening the Hon.; E. S. Marks conferred wjlh the council on the question of tho proposad biennial games between Australia and New Zealand. He also met the secretary of the New Zealand Association again this morning to discuss further details. Messrs. H. Amos, E. G. Guy, and G. S. Bright were appointed to act as a subcommittee to deal with cycling matters in tho first instance. ' ■ , Messrs. A. B. Gordon and TC. L. Moody were reinstated as amateurs. . At the conclusion of tile meeting Mr. H. Austad, on behalf of the association, congratulated Mr. L. A. Tracy- on Ins recent marriage, and wished him every success in his future life.
