A rather deep low-pressure wave crossed the South Island last night, and the windshave sln.ee' become southerly at places on the east coast south of Kaikoura, but elsewhere moderate to strong uortherlles and westerlies were still ruling this mornlnK. Unsettled, sultry, and humid conditions have been experienced with fairly general rain during Monday night, the falls having been mostly light to moderate, but heavy at places on tho west coast of the South Island: By this morning there was a marked Improvement in tho weather over tho South Island.
