DISTRICT NURSING- GUILD Many matters of interest are dealt with in the 29th annual report of the District: Nursing .Guild of . St. John, It is stated that during the year 2931 visits were paid by the nurses to homos, and 927 cases were treated at the office of the guild; 240 additional names were placed on tho register, bringing the number enrolled to date to 5529. The committee has been augmented, by the following new members, Mrs. E. M. Luke, Miss E. Young, and Mrs. D. Macdonald Wilson;' Mi's. M. H.1 Pearson, a foundation member of tho committee is returning to it, and will be cordially welcomed. Mention is made of the generous responso made to the appeal for funds for coal for the sick and poor during the winter, the sum of £44 4s 6d having been sent in. This coal gave-great comfort, particularly to aged sick people. Thanks aro also given to the Macifctthy trustees for-a grant of £100; to the B.S.A. for a share of Rose Day funds, amounting to £33 6s 8d; and to the Commercial Travellers' Association for their grant of £15 for the Christmas treat. AH subscribers and generous friends, also helpers aro specially and cordially thanked., Mention is made of the formation of the. Wellington Hospital Women's Auxiliary, on which tho guild is represented by the president (Mrs. Stace). Sister Gray, at tho request of the Social Welfare Council; has been appointed on tho council to represent the guild. The committee is very grateful to their patroness, Lady Alice Forgusson, who, with His Excellency, inspected tho guild rooms and expressed satisfaction with the work accomplished, The new quarters, two bright airy rooms in St. John Ambulance headquarters, Broadway Buildings, Courtenay place, are very satisfactory and much appreciated. They are in a central position. Patients find them easy of access, and often a queue of people is awaiting the nurses on arrival. It is mentioned that a third nurse is urgently needed to cope with tho work, and special efforts are to be made to raise the necessary funds. Regretful mention js made of the death of Mr. Rowley, and the fact that, through sickness in the family, Miss Rowley had to relinquish the position of hon. secretary. Mrs. Murdo M'Rae was appointed in her place, with Mrs. W. J.. Osborn, as hon. treasurer. The annual meeting of the society, will take place next week, when the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. G. A. Troup) will preside.
