DEVELOPMENT WORKS COST TO GOVERNMENT (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post") AUCKLAND, This Day. When work is commenced on tht construction of the Morningside railway deviation in accordance with th« announced intention of the Prime Minister, the Government will be engaged on the most ambitious pro-, gramme of public works ever concentrated upon one city. No less thaii £2,500,000 of Government money is being spent in Auckland on schemes now .rapidly approaching completion. An early start on the Morningside project, with its mile and three-quarter tunnel under the city, will bring this figure well over the £3,000,000 mark. Of thia £2,700,000 is devoted to railway works, including the construction, of the Westfield deviation, the new. Auckland railway station, and yards, the Otahuhu railway workshops, and tho Morningside deviation. The balance represents the cost to the Government of the waterfront road, the modelling of the Orakei garden suburb, and the construction of Hobsonvill© aerodrome. , The approximate cost of the works is as follows: — Westfield deviation, £500,000; station and yards, £1,000,----000; Otahuhu workshops, £600,000; Morningside deviation, £600,000; Orakei suburb, £350,000; "Waterfront road, £120,000; Hobsonyille aerodrome, total, £3,270,000.-
