MERCANTILE LEAGUE 1 The annual meeting of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League was held on Tuesday last, Mr. A. Croll presiding over an attendance of over 50 officers and delegates. The annual report and balancesheet were adopted. The following new clubs were affiliated to the league: State Advances, State Fire and Accident Insurance, B. L. Hart and Co., James Smith's, Brownlee, Ltd., Todd Motors, Hope Gibbons, Ltd. During the evening eulogistic references were made to the work of the Management Committee, the hon. treasurer, recording secretary, and hon. secretary. Mr. J. Young, a vice-president, intimated that he would award a trophy for the best wicket-keeper in the league during the coming season. The election of officers resulted as follow:—Patron, Hon. R. A. Wright; president, Mr. A. G. Cate; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Adams, T. Ballinger, W. S. Bennett, J. Cable, A. C. Croll, Hope B. Gibbons, R. B. Gibbons, A. W. Gibson, J. H. Halligan, H. L. E- Russell, B. Staff, A. P. Smith, Jas. Young; hon, secretary, Mr.. H. J. Lawrence; hon. treasurer, Mr. G. Buckman; recording secretary, Mr'. E. Gornall; hon. auditors, Messrs. S. Milne and C. W. Robinson; management committee, Messrs. A. Croll, E. Cotterill, J. Cunninghame, J. T. Ewan, R. Haddon, S. Martin, D. Muir, G. Buckman, E. Gornall, H. J. Lawrence. Regret was expressed at the inability of Mr. J. Adams to again act as a member of the Management Committee, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded him for' his past services. It was decided that all entries for new teams must reach the secretary by 20th September.
