TROTTING

TROTTING FIXTURES.

December 27, 29, 31—Auckland T.C. December 29—Winton' T.C. The first race at the New Bvightoi Trotting Club's Meeting on Saturday wl be started at 12.15 p.m. William the Great looks well, but he is very sore at present. When he raced last month at Addington, lie seemed to be favouring one of his forelegs. H. Frost is of opinion that the trouble is in the pacer's shoulder, as when .he is wound up he goes without any limp. Of. tlie twenty-two horses in the New Zealand Trotting Cup, Logan Pointer^ lias iix representatives, Brent Lucundu, Cathedral Chimes, and Mclsuii Biugcu two each, while Key De Oro, Ailftiiis, Great Audubon, Harold Dillon. Walter Direct, Etawah, Machine Brick, Ifal Zolock, Denver Iluon, and Author Jillou have one each. Daphne de Oro, only a four-year-old, is the youngest of the 22 horses nominated for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. With the exception of Jewel Pointer and Tevence Dillon, who are six-year-olds, all the others are aged. It is a tribute to the quality of Daphne de Oro (says "Picador") that she should thus early in her career qualify for the most important light harness event, in the Dominion. There is not the slightest doubt that she is really good, and for one of her age her record will take a lot of beating. The stallion Brigand will go to his new home in the Waikato at the end o£ this week. The American stallion, when first raced here as a trotter by B. Jarden, looked like being the best trotter ever imported from America. Unfortunately he broke down badly, and .although lie has been raced occasionally since that time at both the pacing and trotting gaits, ho was always too infirm to do himself justice. He is a well-bred house, and may be a success at tho stud. . There is a large staff of workman jjusy on the new stand at Addingtorf; <Mfecn is expected to be finished before the big November Meeting. Peter Bingen is having an easy time. It is probable that the National Cup winner will not be started until November, when he will contest the New Zealand Pageant, who raced so well at the June Meeting in Auckland, seemed to be moving short in is work lately. He is not doing much fast work at present. W. J. Tomkinson is at present on a trip to Australia, but he is expected back in time for the Wellington Trotting Club's Meeting on Saturday of next week. The Wrack three-year-old in J. J. Kennerley's stable has been turned out for a few months. His trainer is of opinion that the young pacer is growing so fast that it is injudicious to continue working him for early racing. When in work he showed great promise. There is every prospect of tho New Brighton Meeting, to be held to-morrow, proving a big success, i'or the acceptances received are beyond all anticipation. In the Wainoni Handicap, every one of the horses nominated was paid up for yesterday. It is regarded as almost certain that the North New Brighton tram line will be opened for Saturday, and in this case patrons -of the meeting will be afforded much better transport than has been the case at recent meetings. The course proper has been well rolled and should provide excellent going for the racing.
