OBITUARY.
The death occurred on Tuesday at York Bay of Mr. Tudor Atkinson, second son of the late Sir Harry Atkinson. His wife, who was Ann Elizabeth Richmond, daughter of tho late Hon. J. C. Richmond, died ten years ago. The late Mr. Atkinson leaves, two sons, Esmond and Hal, and two daughters, Mary, wife of Mr. Champion, and Rosalind, who is unmarried. He was brought up on his father's farm, a small clearing in the forest near Mount Egmont, and was educated as a lawyer, being at one time associate to» his uncle, Mr. Justico Richmond. A man of far-seeing vision, indomitable courage, and great strength of character, Mr. Atkinson, after practising law for twelve years, devoted nimself for thirty years to the study of Maori-owned forests in tho centre of the North Island, and to the promotion of a big company for tho purpose of handling the timber by the most modern and economical methods. He was the centre of a small community of friends and relatives in York Bay. A man of wide sympathies and unusual accomplishments, he had written the words and music of several songs, and was deeply interested in metaphysics.
