GREENWICH HOSPITAL

NEW SCHOOL BUILDING

(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 27th.July. Tho award of the contract for the erection of new buildings for the Royal Hospital School, Greenwich, on the estate of Mr. G. S. Beade, now of New Zealand, marks a further stage in the progress of the scheme mado possible by the generosity of this gentleman. For somo time past, Mr. Eeade has boon in communication with the Admiralty on the subject of the bequest of a considerable sum of money for the benefit of Greenwich Hospital, and at his request tho director of the hospital recently visited New Zealand to receive particulars of Mr. Eeade's intentions. The proposed bequest has particular reference to the Royal Hospital School, which is to be removed to the estate at Holbrook, Suffolk, given to Greenwich Hospital by Mr. Reade as a token of his admiration for the services of. tho Navy in the War. The school itself will bo built entirely out of the existing funds of Greenwich Hospital, which are quite distinct from money voted by Parliament for the Navy. The foundation of Greenwich Hospital is a very old one and self-supporting. Tho Admiralty understand that Mr. Reade's intention is to create a trust fund, which is to be administered for a certain period fixed by him, with a view to tho capital and interest being accumulated in the hands of his trustees before being handed over to the hospital. It is further understood to bo Mi1. Reade's express wish that, after the bequest has come into the hands of tho trustees of Greenwich Hospital, a part of it shall be set aside to accumulate at compound, interest for still further benefit of. the. charity in the more distant future. Tho Admiralty, acting in their capacity as trustees of Greenwich Hospital, have signified to Mr. Readc their grateful acceptance of tho generous gift he has already mado of his estate at Holbrook, and of his further benefieient intentions towards Greenwich Hospital. Thoy. have also assured him of their willingness to co-operate with, and give effect'tfo, .his wishes in regard to the policy.which he desires should bo followed in tho future.
