In tho course of a report on the voyage of H.M.S; Wisteria up the Amazon, it is stated that Association football has become immensely popular throughout Brazil, entirely displacing bull fighting. When tho V^iateria reached Santa Eenim, the whole town was absent at a football match on the outskirts of the village, only the Mayor and an American official at tho telegraph office being present to welcome the warship.
