PICTURES FOR THE ART GALLERY

As the result of generous contributions from the public the New- Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has been ablo to secure for its permanent collection the beautiful picture "May Morning" by Harold Speed, recently shown in Mr. Murray Fuller's exhibition. The price paid was £150, the artist having made a reduction for a public gallery. The following additional donations towards the purchase are acknowledged:—Dr. Fell, G. A. Pearson, and L. G. Reid, £1 Is each; Mr. nnd Mrs. Henry Hall, £2 2s. Tho amount collected now totals £121, the balance, £29, be-ins contributed, by the Academy. JM>. Ernest Bell, a life member of the Academy, has presented for the gallery i\ line watercolour drawing; by John Gully, showing a wide expanse of North Island country with Tongariro and Buapehu in the distance. Mrs. H. D. Crawford has again lent to the gallery for a few months her great, painting by Sir Henry Eaeburn. The works) mentioned will be on view in the gallery next Week.
