WELLINGTON COLLEGE

OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION THE YEAH REVIEWED ' • Old Boys of Wellington College met last night at the thirty-eighth animal meeting, over which Dr. J. S. Elliott presided. "The ofliciul opening on 2nd March of the Wellington College Old Boys' Wur Memorial Hall and the unveiling of the Memorial Window marked ii rcd-lettei1 day in the annals of the college," said the report. '-The new hall, when the new classrooms are completed, will, in the widest sense, be the centre of school life, and a daily reminder to future generations of scholars of the nobility of life, and of service and sacrifice. The hall is a memorial to the dead and an inspiration to the living. . . . The scene at the opening was inspiring'and deeply impressive, and ■will leave life-long memories with all who -were privileged to be present, 'the inscription on mural marble tablets of the names of all Old Boys who served in the Great War is near completion, and the bronzes on which will be inscribed the names of those who gave their lives for their country are due .to arrive from the manufacturers in a few days. "There have been great changes at the college during the year. Mr, CrcsswcU, the headmaster, owing to ill-health, resigned, and the association expressed^ sympathy with him, and high appreciation ot his friendly help on all occasions. Mr. A. C. Gifford, after many years of service, retired with the good wishes and affection of all who knew him, and particularly those who were taught by. him. Mr. Kenner during the year had the distinction of being appointed to the head; mastership of the new Rongotai Boys College, and will still remain an active member of our association, for which, he has given great service for many years. "The new headmaster, Mr. W. A. Armour, M.A., M.Sc, is already on terms of cordiality with the Old Boys' Association, and it is a privilege to help him to maintain the old school at the high level it has attained among the secondary schools of New Zealand." "Thirty-eight years is a long time, and our association is well established,' said the chairman, "and we may be gratified at the work that culminated this year m the completion of the Memorial Hall. The splendid record of the school, both scholastically and on the field of sport, was mentioned by Dr. Elliott. Althougn the association had reached the high-, water mark of endeavour, they must not fall into lethargy, he said; there were still many things to be done. The chairman said that the actual work of the association was being carried on by a comparatively few members, and this was not desirable. The membership roll was far too small with r'egardto the younger members. The association, as well as being of great use to the school, formed an excellent connection between the Old Boys. Mr. T. K. Fleming, a former headmaster of the school, alao mentioned the difficulty of getting the younger Old Boys to come forward and help, but said lie thought that the difficulty would solve itself. He also spoke of the splendid work that had been done by Mr. J. P. l'irtli, and of how all the Old Boys honoured their old headmaster. Other speakers included Professor ivirK, Mr. W. A. Armour (the present headmaster), Mr. K. Darroch, and Mr. 1. lv. Cresswell. _. The following officers* were elected:— president, Dr. J. S. Elliott; lion, auditor, Mr 0. G. Kember; lion, secretary, Mr. W W. Cook; assistant lion, secretary, Mr. B. 0. Binnie; lion, treasurer Mr. C A lnnis; committee, Colonel K. at. J. Beerc, D.5.0., Messrs. K. Darroch, W. X Bethunc. V. M.
