"THE ELIJAH."
Oh Saturday evening next the .public are. to be givon mi opportunity of hearing Mendelssohn's "Elijah," one of the greatest works in the sphere of oratorio, and with tho public one of tho most popular. The Royal Choral Union has had the work on rehearsal for the past three months, and the chorus is said to bo singing remarkably well. The performance has an added Interest in that it will he tho first public appearance of Mr. John Bishop, tho union's now conductor. On Monday night tho chorus and orchestra wont right through (ho work. Their regard to the finer points of music allowed that Mr. Bishop's coaching has given them an artistic conception of tho great work, and the conductor expressed 'satisfaction at tho excellence of tho rehearsal. The final rehearsal will take place at the Town Hall on Friday at 7.30., when only those taking part will ho admitted. A splendid cast of soloists will take part, including:—Soprano, Miss Amy Evans; baritone, Mr. Frasor Gauge; contralto, Miss Frances Morrison; mezzo, Miss Iris l'otter; and tenor, Mr. Edwin Dennis.
