lii recognition of the work it is doing for Palmerston North and district tire Palmerston North Borough Council on Monday last decided to grant the Manawatu Kadio Club a subsidy of £50. AVhen tho estimates camo forward the subsidy was fixed at £30. Councillor A. E. Mansford, however, urged that the amount be raised to £50, pointing out that since November last the club had grown from a membership of 38,t0 254, and its plant was valued at over £500. There was not a shadow of doubt that tho station was of immonse advantage to Palmerston North. Everybody. spoke highly of its work, „n„ it was a big advertisement for the town. Councillor W. L. Pitzherbert seconded tho increase, and congratulated the club on its excellent performance. It was one. of the best in Nc*v Zealand as far as clarity was concerned, and the members of theclab were full of enthusiasm. He tfiotight the : club might broadcast, however, on one additional evening- oach nveek and perhaps tho council would make that a condition of tho subsidy. The club deserved encouragement,, and its excellent transmissions wero putting Palmerston North on the map.' It is reported that the Broadcasting Company is organising an orchestra to play'at.lYA, on similar lines to that at 2YA. If the Northern orchestra is as. good as that which Wellington listeners havo to entertain them, Auckland will have no causo to complain. But Christchurch will probably mako remarks.
