CLUB ACTIVITIES
PONEKE'S MEETING Inteeret in the affairs, of .the Ponekc Rugby Football Club was shown by a very largo attendance at tho annual general meeting this week, presided over by Mr.' S. S. Deaii. Fourteen new members were elected. 'Tlio annual report showed that the ejub's membership had been fully maintained during the past'year, and teams had been entered in all but the sixth, and seventh grades. Referring to the performances of the' team, tho report stated that tho showing of. the. first fifteen was not so good-as in many past seasons.. This was largely. duo to tho fact that tho. team was composed of a number of ybung players. The juniors experienced their best season for many years past, and the .thirds .again succeeded in winning the championship of their grade, a success largely due to team spirit and very capable coaching. Tho intermediates were affected by lack of reserves, and the fourths, though winning only a few matches, made a creditable showing, as did the fifths. Appreciation was expressed in the report of tho work of the coaches, Messrs. B. Algar and -R. O'Brien (senior), D. Toohill and T. Booker, (junior), J. Windsor (third), Taylor (intermediate), A. A decision was made, that the Greytown Club bo invited to. play a return senior match with Poneko at Easter, if possiblo at Athletic Park, and that Paraparaumu bo invited to play Poneko thirds as a curtain-raiser to the senior match. . . , ;. Recommendations were made to the incoming committeo regarding gymnasium improvements. '.• ■ ' .'■ ■ It was anticipated that'tho club would bo able to outer teams in all grades this scasou, and that tho senior team would be much stronger than last year.
