WOOL RESEARCH
"• ;— I ' MAEKETING BOARD GRANT (From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 10th Jan. ' The Empire Marketing Board has notified the British Research Association for the Woollen and Worsted Industries, which has its headquarters at Leeds, of a capital grant of £7000 and a maintenance grant of £2000 a year specially earmarked for the study and investigation of wool quality. The grant arises from the need for closer relationship between sheep breeders in the Colonies and the woollen and worsted manufacturers in this country. In particular there. is a need for a standardisation of quality in wool and of the precise characteristics of wool fibres in relation to their fitness for various types of woollen and worsted fabrics. It is .recognised that if quality in its varying degrees can be standardised sheep breeders can be ' put in possession of data which will enable them to produce fleeces of particular types to meet manufacturers' requirements. . • ' ( - In order that the whole rango of investigation may be complete a joint programmo of research work has been arranged between the Research Association and the Animal Breeding Research Department at the University of Edinburgh, to whom'the Empire Marketing Board, are also contributing an additional grant.
