NAPIER HARBOUR
COMMISSION'S SITTINGS
The Napier Harbour Commission* which commenced its sittings at Napier on 4th August, sat continuously until 13th September. The three Commissioners were Mr. J. S. Barton,' S.M. (chairman), Mr. A. C. Mackenzie, the engineer of the Melbourne Harbour Board, and Mr. J. B. "Waters, merchant,' of Dunedin. The evidence of 47 witnesses was taken at Napier, and the Commissioners then adjourned to Wellington, where they are now engaged in! writing .their report. Yesterday, at its sittings at the Dominion Farmers' Institute, formal and technical evidence was taken from two Wellington witnesses, and Mr. A. Gray, K.C., on be« half of the Harbour Board, and . ffr. H. B.Lusk, of Napier, on behalf »f the Marine Department, addressed the Commission on matters of law and touched upon the question of the costs of the inquiry. The Commission, after hearing counsel reserved its decision.
