CHILD DISAPPEARS

WHANGAREI, 19th Sept,

Paul Lendich, a Dalmatian, aged 45 years, was charged in the Kaitaia Magistrate's Court on Saturday before Mr. L. M'lntosh, J.P., with the wilful murder of an infant child of which it is alleged he is the father, the mother being a Maori named Bosie To Whaui, a nineteen-year-old Maori girl, who was living with accused. The girl gave birth to a male child on 23rd August. Lendich is alleged to have left the place with the infant, and nothing more has been seen of it.

A remand till Saturday next* was granted, the accused being retained in custody. In the meantime the police are searching a swamp nearby in an endeavour to recover the body of the infant.
