KELBURN VIADUCT

DANGER TO PEDESTRIANS

A strong point was made at tho annual mooting of tho Northland Progressivo Association last evening of the clangors about the Kolburn viaduct duo to tho . continually increasing motor traffic bctwobn tho city and tho western suburbs.

The executive requested tho conncil to extend the footpath to tho Itigi in order to cnablo pedostrians to traverse the area in safoty (stated tho report). It was understood that this was to bo done, but tho danger still remains. It is now proposed to do away with tho present footway on tho viaduct in order (o widen tho roadway, and to construct a now footway on tho southern Hide. The oxecutivo corisidors that this will greatly increase tho danger to pedostriuns, by reason of tho fact that it will bring foot passengers into a narrow part of the road whoro there is boiivy traffic and poor visability. This omphasises tho necessity for the removal of tho bluff near tho viaduct, which has from time to timo been advocatod by tho association. This mattor has been taken up by tho Karori association, and joint action will bo taken in regard to it.
