ATLANTIC FLIGHT

NEWS OF CHAMBERLAIN

SEEN OFF LAND'S END

BERLIN PREPARES WELCOME

(United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 6th June, 2 p.m.)

LONDON, sth June. There was a long silence after the Columbia, Clarence Chamberlain's aeroplane was sighted over Newfoundland. Then a message was circulated that the Mauretania four hours later had sighted the 'plane off Land's End, flying so high that the propeller was practical ly inaudible. Meanwhile, the Le Bourget aerodrome, believing that Chamberlain had a wireless set, sent out a message, urging him to come down at the first favourable opportunity as two dangerous storms were coming. Le Bourget since learnt that Chamberlain had discarded his wireless. '

At Berlin full preparations are being made to welcome the Columbia. Gigantic searchlights are sweeping the sky from the Tempelhof •, aerodrome, and there are intermittent searchlights along the route from Hanover to Berlin.
