FRANCE LIMITS IMPORTS
SERIOUS EFFECT AT HOME

A new crisis has arisen, in the coal industry, owing to the decree- of the .trench Government that it will admit ol coal imports only under license after sth June. It is understood that permits will be granted freely for domestic and 1 mdustt|al coal, but coal for railways, navy, gas, and electricity will be excluded.

The British owners have been dumping freely since the strike. Xhe Government is making representations to France. The British coal industry is not in a position to withstand another blow. The miners complain of reduced wages, over-production, and price cutting. The owner* and merchants complain of the diminished demand. .
