The' King's Birthday, Honours List included anvunusually largo number- of awards to women for philanthropic work, and others honoured include prominent figures hi polities, while recognition is giveu to several for services in aviation and for work, in Egypt, Sudan, and China. The' elevation of Sir Davison Dalziel, tothe Peerage will necessitate a by-election in Brixton Division, of one of London's boroughs which he represents in Parliament. At the General Election Sir D. Dalziel (C.J had a very large majority over Labour and Liberal candidates. In 1923 he lost to a Liberal. A three-cornered' contest is expected on this occasion. One of tho-most interesting"-of tho baronetcies is that conferred on Lieut-enant-Commander Congrevo, who, it is assumed, received the honour intended for his late father, General Congrcve, Governor of Malta. It is unusual, but not unique, for a sou to receive an honour iv this way. , The only addition, to the Order of Companions of Honour announced is that, of the Bey. J. D. Jones, tho eminent Congrogationalist divine.
Of officials in China who are honoured the most notable are Owen St. Clair O'Malley, who negotiated with Eugene Chen at Hankow; Mr. John Brennan, Acting-Consul-General at Canton; and Mr. Erie Teichman, of tho Legation at Pekin', who become Commanders of tho Order "of: St. Michael and St. George; and' Alwyne Ogden, Acting-Consul at ■Kuik'iang, and William Turner, Act-ing-Consul at Pekin, who become officers of the British Empire Order. Three officers of the steamship Sunning are honoured for their conspicuous ability and courage in recovering their vessel which had been captured by pirates off the coast of China in November, 1926. The Egyptian honours include the promotion of Major-General Spinks, In-spector-Goneral'of the Egyptian Army, Acting-Sirdar, to be K.8.E., and a largo number of other honours are conferrol on officials in the Egyptian and Sudan services. '
Lieutenant M'lntyre, of the Australian Air Force, receives a bar to his Air Force Cross for his recent sea-' plane flight from Melbourne to the Solomon Islands and back, and the Air Force Cross is given to Bertram Leeto and Thomas v Stack in recognition of their recent flight from London to Delhi in a De Haviland "Moth" aeroplane.
