UNEMPLOYMENT
ALLIANCE OF LABOUR .RETURNS
(Special to tha "Ev«htng Put.") DUNEDIN, 2nd June. Mr. W. Herbert, the secretary of the local Alliance of Labour, has been requested by tho " National Executive of the alliance to ask the officers of the various Otago . unions to keep v. list of new unemployed, also a record of how long they have been unemployed, and what work they 'are prepared to undertake. Mr. Herbert states that during the whole of, hsi ten years' experience as an official of the industrial labour • movement 'he had not seen things so bad as regards unemployment. "> ~nd ■' his organisation has a scheme > jt to organise cooperative partic of workers to perform work for the Government or public bodies, and be prepared, to give them contracts at the current rates allowed by the Public Works Department..' The following telegram has also been received by Mr. Herbert from the genera] secretary of tho Alliance of Labour:—"Wire re unemployment received. Arranging . deputation to Ministers to-morrow. Will communicate to you their reply.—Roberts.'-' -
