AWOKE TO FIND THROAT CUT

With . hig throat cut, and using his handkerchief as a bandage, a middleaged man told a strange story when he approached a constable at James Smith's corner at 2.30 o'clock this morning. , He said that he got the worse for liquor last night, and lay down on the beach at Oriental Bay to sleep it off. He awoke suddenly to find his throat cut. The man, who gave his name as James Brady, aged 55, single, and a seaman by occupation, said that he came from Auckland to Wellington three days ago. ' He is now in the Hospital, but his condition is not serious. The police are making inquiries.
