BROADCASTING MATCHES

.■■■-. CHRI6TCHURCH, 31st May. The broadcasting of descriptions of football matches was discussed by the Canterbury Rugby Union executive to-nighf Mr. C. S. M'Cully. said he had been approached on the question of having all the chief football matches broadcasted in future. It was stated that the broadcast descriptions were greatly appreciated by hospital patients. Mr. S. F. Wilson: "I think the broadcasting company can afford to pay us for the rights." f Mr. M'Cully: "If we write to the company asking them to broadcast the matches they will be only too pleased to do so." •Mr. Wilson: "Ido not'think we should. I know numbers. of people who would stay at home instead of going to the matches if we broadcast them." . Mr. J; X, Moloney said that such descriptions were wanted by the soldier patients in the sanatorium. .5 The Chairman: "It is possible that we would decrease our attendances by broadcasting." Mr. Wilson: "I know it." Mr. M'Cully: "The time might come whenit will mean a lot to us." The discussion then ended, the chairman stating that it was understood that no matches should be broadcasted in future unless permission was given.
