DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL

MB GOODFELLOW'S

POSITION

MR. GROUNDS TO REPLY

(By Telegraph.)

(Spwial to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day

. Commenting yesterday oh his statement regarding dairy control, Mr. W. Goodfellow said that.he desired it to be distinctly understood that he did not speak either officially. or otherwise for the Dairy Produce Board, but as the managing'director of the New Zealand! Cooperative Dairy Company. Mir. Goodfellow said-that.when absolute control, was decided upon it was recognised that the board could revert to a partial control at the end of any season without loss. However, it was not contemplated that the board would be so unwise as to change horses when crossing the stream. If the system of absolute control, had been a success, a co-opera-tive organisation would have been set up to light for the council method of electing the board and to combat the activities of the-Free Marketing League. Therefore, the statement that the board took undue risks in introducing absolute control was not:wholly correct. : A detailed reply to Mr. Goodfellow's statement regarding the control of dairy produce .will be made-; by Mr. W. Grounds at the North Auckland Dairy Conference to-day. •: Mr. Grounds will deal with the statements made at the reecnt Farmers' TJnion conference at Whangarei by Mr. H. W. Hudson, a delegate of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.: ■ When asked yesterday to express views on Mr. Goodfellow.'s manifesto, Mr. Grounds said that he was reserving j what he had to say for to-day's confer? j ence. No announcement could be made 1] regarding the board's future policy until after its next meeting on 15th June, when it would be decided on. the mo- ' tions of - which notice had been given whether or not pooling was to be abolished. Control matters will be dealt with by Mr. Goodfellow in an address to the dairy farmers at Cambridge on Wednesday afternoon. The address will be delivered as part of Mr. Goodfellow's campaign for re-electiqn as a representative of -No. 3 -ward on the Dairy Board.
