His Majesty the-King, in presenting new colours to the Irish Guards sit Buckingham Palace, vrecalled that he presented the first colours in 1913 whea the Guards were a new regiment wiUi* oat battle honours. Within fovrtesa months the regiment won its first honour in the Mons retreat^ and further honours at Ypres, the Somme, ia<l Cambrai.
