Tho Minister of Education (tho Hon. E. A. Wright) returned this morning from Christehurcli.
Tho Minister of Agriculture (t.lio Hon. O. J. Hawken) loft this afternoon for Daunovirjto, and expects to return to Wellington on Friduy afternoon. Mr. Hawken, has boon obliged to cancel his visit to Eltham noxt Monday, whon ho liad hopod to deliver a pro-sessional address. ■
Mr. E. J. Skelton lias been appointed art instructor at tho Petone Technical School.
.News was roccived in Wellington yesterday of tho death, at Motucka, of Mr. H. p. Park, who was very woll known in- the Nelson and Taranaki districts. Tho lato Mr. Park was tho father of Mrs. H. D. Bennett, of Wellington.
At a meeting of tho council of tho Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening, resolutions wero passed expressing deep regret at the loss suffered by tho death of Mr. John A. Pike and Mr. M. G. Garnluim, monitors of tho chamber. Deep regret was also oxpressed at tho death of Mr. W. A. W. Grenfoll, who, although not a member, had been closely associated from time to thno with members of tho chamber.
At last evening's rohearsal of the Royal Choral Union the announcement was made by tho chairman of committee (Mr. K. E. Horron) that tho committee had accepted the resignation of Mr. H. Templo White as conductor. For upwards of eight years Mr. White has conducted the union's concerts, and has set such a standard in choral music that to-day the Wellington society is probably tho strongest, numerically, financially, and musically, in Now Zealand. Mr. White will continue his work in the domain of part singing, but the loss of his services in tho bigger iield of oratorio and opera will be widely regretted.
The funeral of the lato Mr. Charles IP. Stewart look place at the Bolton Street Cemetery yesterday. Tho cere■jnony at the grave was conducted by tho Bey. Mr. H. Walko, of Johusonvillo. The chief mourners wero Messrs. T. Cheesimm and Karl Nowbold (nephows of the deceased), and Messrs. AY. H. and A. S. Ballinger. A very largo number of friends were prosent, including tho Roy. Jas. Moore, Messrs. Thomas, Joseph, Eric, an' Nelson Ballinger, E; C. Gannaway, T. Gray, T. Compton, R. Scott, George London, F. London, S. Morton, E. D. Woodward, Arthur Ramsay, G. Xcv, F.
