(Auckland), has had a very Btrenuous time sinco he finished his course at the Artillery School last August. Ho has been attending classes and courses at various places, including tho Artillery Survey School, Larkhill, the School of Electric Lighting, Gosport, and the Air Photo School at South Farnborough. Captain and Mrs. Park expect to return to New Zealand about the end of May, travelling via Suez and .Sydney. "Dcvonjiort people," says the "Western Morning News," "will learn with interest of the coming visit to England of the Mayor of the daughter town Dovonport, New Zealand, and will hope to see and entertain his Worship on jus arrival in the West. Mr. Lamont is now on his b way. We hope a civic welcome will be given him, and that through the Mayor the inhabitants of the town will have tho opportunity of showing their interest in this far-off town with which it is linked in name. Mr. Lamont will no doubt be able to tell us something of the history of the town he represents, and its association with tho Devonport we know. We talk frequently of Mother Plymouth and hep numerous daughters, and it is well we should bear in mind the offspring of Devonport also." \

The "Northern Echo" calls attention to the good record oi a seafaring family of North Shields, a record which is probably unequalled in the annals of the Mercantile Marine. "Lewis Crosthwaite has just gained an extra master mariner's certificate. Two years ago his elder brother, Bertram, gained a similar distinction, taking his extra master's ticket at the age of 26, and at the present-time he is chief officer on the Cairn liner Cairntorr. Another brother passed his master examination last year, and was until recently an officer with the Union Steamship Company .of New Zealand, and is now ou Shore service at Wellington, New Zealand. Tot. another brother passed for his first mate's ticket last year, and ho is now, at the age.of 22, "third officer on the s.s. Cairnrose. All four brothers served their apprenticeship with the Cairn Line. They are sons of Captain Joseph Crosthwaite, of North Shields, who before retiring was a commander of the. Cairn Line for several years." Su, Meet street. . _.
