REFUGEES IN LOUISIANA

NEW ORLEANS, IGtli May. The coastguard rescued over 3000 re fugecs in a desperate' plight,-'■' They had been huddled ovor the weok-end on a lovee near Atchofalaya. It is now believed that no others arc in imminent danger. Naval aviators Hew ovor the "Sugar Bowl" lands and declared that the flood tide was fifty miles below the Big Bend crovasscs. Parishes far below these are being rapidly evacuated and,preparations are being made to care for an additional 20,000 refugees from the south nnd central parishes of Louisiana.
Tho levees at the Bayou dcs Glaises are slowly crumbling and a groat wall of water is pouring over the fertile lands. The Bed Cross and other rolief workers have planned to open new centres throughout tho district for the fresh homeless. Mr. H. Hoover lms arrived at New Orleans to confer on the rehabilitation plans.
