A decision which is regarded as bringing the totalisator appreciably nearer has been reached by the Jockey Club, which is instituting an inquiry "into the .means whereby bettiug may best be made to contribute to the maintenance of sport." Tho "Daily Telegraph's" racing expert says obviously the Jockey Club sees a solution of its present difficulties in the totalisator as a meaVs of, not only assisting the State from betting, but deriving benefit from the gross percentage deducted for the welfare of racing generally.
