ST. PETER'S CHURCH

The annual meeting or St. Peter's Church was held on Thursday, the vicar, the Eev. Canon H. Watson, presiding over a large attendance of parishioners. The balance-sheet, showing a credit o£ £174 Cs lOd, and the churchwardens' report, were read and adopted. The sura In hand included £69 carried forward from 1926. An annual sinking fund was I neede dto provide for cost ot repainting the church in the near future, at an estimated cost of at least £500, and £50 would have to be spent at once in repairs to the exterior. As compared with last financial year, the general offertories increased from £766 13s 6d to £829 4s 2d, being at the rate of £1 7s 2d per Sunday. The sum of £80 was received by the vestry from the ladies' working party this year towards the general expenses of the parish. ■ The death was recorded with regret of If r. Albert Richards, one of the church's oldest worshippers. At the time of his death, Mr. Richards was a member of i the vestry, a synodsman, hon. secretary of the schoolroom trustees, an hon. treasurer of the • free-will offering fund, and hon. secretary of the Missionary League. During the year the Church received the following bequests:—Estate Hamilton Gilmer £100, estate Mrs. Ellen Richards £20 15s 6d, estate Mrs. Ejizabeth Stockbridge £25 lls 4d. The position of the endowment fund continued' highly satisfactory, the total amount in hand to date being £3278 17s sd, of which £2900 had been invested, the balance of £378 17s 5d being in the Post Office Savings Bank pending investment. The retiring penny collection scheme recently instituted by the vicar continued a marked success. The actual amount received for the year from this was £127 Is Bd, an average of just on £2 10s per Sunday. The rebuilding fund; with the assistance of donations received, now totals !£670 5s Id. Of this amount £500 had been invested in inscribed stock, whilst the balance -was in the Post Office Savings Bank. The election of officers resulted: —Wai--den, Mr. W. E. Bethune; people's warden, Mr. A. W. Curtis; vestrymen, Messrs. J. L. Barnicoat, A. G. Ballinger, J. Bardslcy, W. D. Bennett. g/A. Loncuet. G. Lawrence, G. W. Robinson, R. Wilberfoss, and Captain Harris.
