A BATSMAN'S WICKET

THE AUCKLAND INNINGS

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND,This Day

The Plunket Shield final ■ match between Auckland and Wellington was resumed at Eden Park to-day in glorious weather and before a capital at-

tendance.

Dacre (13) and Allcott (4) faced the bowling of Badcock and Henderson on a perfect batsman's wicket. Both men batted confidently, but Henderson (lefthand medium to fast) was treated with a good, deal of-respect. Dacre gave a dime nit chance at the wicket in Badcock's second over, the ball rising sharply and hitting James in the chest. Henderson was bowling an occasional fast one, and it was not long before he achieved success, a ball ,which turned slightly beating Alleott and removing the leg bail. 156—5—6.

At 170, M'Girr relieved Badcoek, and Dacre snicked him through the slips to the boundary, whilst Gillespie, who had succeeded Allcott, addr/ia cut for 3, and a. single, bringing the total to 180. Off Henderson, a-single was made by Gillespie, and then Daere made tEe hit which passed Wellington's total with a pretty shot to leg for 3. It had taken the Aucklanders half an hour to get the 37 runs needed to pass Wellington's score, and the batsmen had not been at all comfortable to Henderson.

With his score at 10, Gillespie cocked one short of mid-off, but the ball fell clear of the field. .The 200 total was signalled after 50 minutes' play, Dacre, who was batting with grace and confidence, gaining the plaudits of the crowd for another pretty 3 to leg.

The batsmen at this stage had set-' tied down to steady play. Brice rang on the changes. Badeo'ek relieved Henderson at the opposite end to which the Southern professional had been bowling previously, while the Wellington skipper himself took the ball at the other end. This' brought a lull in the scoring for four overs and then Dacre reached his fifty by pulling Brice to the boundary. He had been 95 minutes at tne wickets. The batsmen livened up. Henderson was brought back in place of Badcoek, and off his second ball Dacre was, caught at first slip. 220—6—57.

Anthony filled the vacancy and started with a single to the slips off Henderson. Ten runs later Anthony was smartly taken at the wicket: :by James; who was standing well back. 230—7—5. '■'■■. Matheson opened confidently, hitting a couple of twos off Henderson, and one off M'Girr, but he got in front of a straight one from the latter and was out lbw. 246—8 —6. Lambert replaced M'Girr in the last over before lunch, and the score was then 257 runs for eight wickets. Details:— WELLINGTON., First Innings 182 AUCKLAND. First Innings.
