PROVINCIAL TOURNEY
GAMES AT MIRAMAR
Under ideal weather conditions a start was made this morning at Miramar with the Wellington lawn tennis provincial tournament. The entries are smaller in number than usual, totalling 79 for the championships and 71 for the handicap events. For the boys' and girls' events 2G entries have been received.
The following are results of first and second round matches played to-day in the various events:—
Ladies' Singles Championship.— Miss A. Howe beat Miss V. Richardson, 6-2, 6-3: Miss D. Howe beat Miss E M Madeloy, 6-2, 6-1. Miss M. A. East beat Miss JM. Macassey, 6-0, 6-1. Miss F. Foster beat Mils F. Donnelly, 6-4, 6-3. Miss M. Preedy beat Miss T. Duncan 6-2, 6-2. Miss S. Preedy beat Miss E. W. Tucker, 6-4, 6-1. Miss N. Bell beat Miss H. I. Dorman, 6-3, 6-4. Miss Tracy beat Miss M. S. Goodwin, 6-0, 6-1. Mrs. Bell beat Mrs. M. Forde, 4-6, 6-5, 6-3. Miss E. Brady won from Miss S. Levin by default. Mrs. D. Elias beat Miss S. Best, 4-6, 6-5, 6-4. Ladies' Doubles Championship.— Misses A. and D. Howe beat Misses Madeley and Goodwin, 6-1, 6-2. Miss Brady and Mrs. Davidson beat Miss Eichardson and Miss Macassey, 6-5, 6-3. Men's Doubles Handicap.—M. O. Gardner and C. S. Plank (24) beat-L. France and Swinburne (scr), 60-43. Ladies' Singles Handicap.—Miss M. S. Goodwin won from Miss S. Levin by default.
Combined Doubles Championship.— Marshall and Mrs. .Penlington beat Fisher and Miss Donnelly, 6-2, 6-3.
