VISIT TO AMERICA
GOVERNOR OF BANK OP
ENGLAND
(United Press Association.—Copyright.) NEW YORK, 19th Jan! The arrival of the Eight Hon. Montagu Norman, governor of the Bank of England, has given rise to much speculation on Wall street, including the frequent prediction that the visit is partly connected with a large Australian loan expected shortly. It is pointed out that Australian bonds valued at many millions of pounds are maturing in 1927, and, while no definite amount of loan is mentioned, it is believed the offering will run. to over seventy-fire million dollars, which is the amount of the 5 per cent bonds marketed here last July. The Morgans, however, stated that no overtures had yet been made regarding a nsw loan.
Sir. Norman's presence is also taken to indicate the probable simultaneous reduction of the rediscount rate by the Federal Reserve Bank and the Bank of England.
