SYMPATHETIC MAGISTRATE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, This Day. "When bookmakers carry on their operations openly, it is a little harsh that a man like this should be charged," commented Mr. 11. W. Bundle, S.M., in the Police Court when ordering James St. Clair Oughton to come up for sentence when called upon on a charge of bookmaking at Wingatui on 27th December.-
Mr. Irwin, for the accused, stated that he ran a small double among his friends. He was a married man, in permanent employment at Invercargill.
