LIBERAL REUNION
NOT GOING SMOOTHLY
QUESTION OF WAR CHEST
LLOYD GEORGE'S EFFORTS
(United Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, 19th January.
Mr. Lloyd George's efforts to secure the reunion of the two sections of Liberalism are not proceeding smoothly. In consequence of comments, Mr. Lloyd George attended a meeting of the National Liberal Federation, and promised to hand over such capital sum as would enable a full Liberal fighting line to be put forward next election, also to cover the whole expenses of the administration of the Liberal headquarters com-
mittoe,
The federation then passed a motion, by 16 votes to 12, asking Mr. Vivian Phillips, who is the Earl of Oxford and Asquith's nominee, to resign the chairmanship of the organisation committee. The "Morning Post," commenting on the meeting, says Mr. Lloyd George no longer claims that his offer is unconditional, as he says he trusts to the honour of tho committee to appoint a neutral committee, nor is the grant made in perpetuity, but only until three months after the next General Election. It is understood that Mr. Lloyd Georec offered £300,000 for the General Election fund, enabling all seats to bo contested, plus £40,000 annually for campaigning purposes.
