WATER AND DRAINS

ORDERS TO RANGIORA

DEPARTMENT INTERVENES

(By*-Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

The Health Department has decided to require the Eangiora Borough Council to provide a high pressure water supply and" drainage system. In this connection the Minister (the Hon. J. A. Young) visited Eangiora yesterday. The Minister informed the Mayor that he had gone to Eangiora to satisfy himself, by personal observation, that the step being taken by the Department was justified by the existing conditions. After inspecting some premises in the centre of the business part of the town the Minister said that while the. town was as clean and healthy as it could be under the present sanitary arrangements,' he agreed with Dr. Telford Medical Officer of Health, that to safeguard the health of the people in the future it was necessary to" provide a water supply and drainage in the closely populated portion of the borough and consequently in the next few days the council would receive a requisition to have an efficient system installed.
